Dr. Liz Johnson is a Senior Lecturer and AI Researcher at UNC Charlotte and Founder of DataWise Innovations. Her work focuses on human-centered, relational AI systems that integrate semantic, spatial, and relational intelligence to support real-time decision-making. She develops immersive AI technologies, including holographic assistants and spatial command interfaces, for applications in public safety, healthcare, and enterprise environments. Dr. Johnson’s research advances a new paradigm of AI that moves beyond transactional interactions toward systems that understand context, support human judgment, and enhance trust in high-stakes environments.

Abstract

As AI systems become more embedded in real-world environments, traditional interfaces such as chatbots and dashboards are no longer sufficient for complex, high-stakes decision-making. This session introduces relational AI as a new paradigm that moves beyond transactional interactions toward systems that maintain context, support human judgment, and build trust over time. We explore how holographic and spatial interfaces, such as AI-driven avatars and volumetric displays, enable more intuitive, collaborative interactions between humans and intelligent systems. Through real-world examples in public safety, healthcare, and enterprise environments, this session demonstrates how combining relational intelligence with immersive interfaces transforms AI from a tool into a decision-support partner. Attendees will gain practical frameworks for designing human-centered AI systems that enhance performance, reduce cognitive load, and improve outcomes.
